A worker in full personal protective equipment is performing maintenance or inspection work on a bundle of pipes and conduits along the wall of an underground tunnel or utility corridor. The tunnel extends far into the background with overhead lighting illuminating the long passageway. Various tools and materials, including a red bucket and plastic sheeting, are staged nearby on the tunnel floor.

A Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill (NCTF-RH) contractor applies a protective coating of paint to a pipe inside the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility (RHBFSF) in Honolulu, Aug. 14, 2026. Charged with the safe decommissioning of the RHBFSF, NCTF-RH was established by the Department of the Navy as a commitment to the community and the environment. NCTF-RH continues to engage with the people of Hawaii, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders as it safely and deliberately decommissions the facility.
