U.S. Army 1st Lt. Eduardo Avila, infantry officer assigned to the 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, performs a 9-line medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) request during the medical lane event at Novo Selo Training Area, Bulgaria, on Sept. 3, 2026. A 9-line MEDEVAC is the U.S. Army’s standardized nine-part radio request that quickly tells medical evacuation crews where to go, how many patients need help, how serious their injuries are and what support they need. The Expert Infantry Badge and the Expert Soldier Badge challenges Soldiers through a series of individual events designed to assess physical readiness, technical proficiency and the ability to perform under pressure. Each event tests different skills and capabilities, contributing to the development of confident, capable Soldiers and a ready force. (U.S. Army Reserve photo by Staff Sgt. Alyssa Blom)
