    U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Nathan Hiegel, a superintendent with the 122nd Fighter Wing Civil Engineer Squadron, operates a charged handline under the guidance of fire protection specialists at the Combat Readiness Training Center, Gulfport, Mississippi, Sept. 9, 2026, during the unit’s annual training. Hiegel participated in the training to gain firsthand understanding of fire protection operations and sharpen readiness through mentorship. Familiarity with the capabilities and requirements of civil engineering specialties helps leaders better support integrated emergency response and unit readiness.
