A military memorial ceremony is taking place in a forested area around a tall dark red granite obelisk monument. The monument bears the inscription 'STANOWISKO WAWRA' and references dates 1863 and 1944, along with '9 PSK AK GROMA' and 'ZA WOLNOŚĆ OJCZYZNY POLEGLI NA GRZĘDACH W AKCJI BURZA' (For the Freedom of the Fatherland, Fallen at Grzędy in Operation Tempest). Soldiers in Polish military uniforms stand guard while civilians and honor guard members with flags attend the commemoration.

Polish soldiers assigned to the 15th Giżycko Mechanized Brigade stand guard at a commemorative obelisk during the 82nd anniversary of the Battle of Osowe Grzędy at the Biebrza National Park in the Osowe Grzędy area, Poland, Sept. 8, 2026. The Battle of Osowe Grzędy is one of the largest and most fiercely partisan battles fought by the Polish 9th Horse Cavalry Riflemen Regiment of the Home Army against Nazi German forces during World War II. V Corps strongly encourages forward-deployed Soldiers, including those assigned to NATO’s Forward Land Forces Battle Group–Poland, to participate in Polish historical and community events and honor the nation’s history.
