A prototype Freeze-Dried Plasma transfusion kit sits on display at the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Development Activity (now Portfolio Acquisition Executive for Medical Products) booth as part of the Special Operations Medical Association (SOMA) annual conference, Raleigh, North Carolina, May 14, 2024. In a major advancement for military medicine and battlefield survival, the Defense Health Agency helped secure Food and Drug Administration approval for this lifesaving product, designed to stop uncontrolled bleeding in the most remote environments. Marketed under the name EZPLAZ Freeze-Dried Plasma and manufactured by Teleflex, the product provides front-line military medical providers with a shelf-stable, highly portable treatment for severe injuries when traditional blood products are unavailable.
