A large fire is burning on the open ocean surface, producing a massive column of dense black smoke rising high into the overcast sky. The fire appears to be consuming a vessel or floating debris, with visible orange flames at the water surface. The scale and color of the smoke column suggests combustion of petroleum-based materials.

A vessel of interest is destroyed during a Maritime Interdiction Operation while underway in the Pacific Ocean, Sept. 3, 2026. The vessel of interest was boarded and cleared before being destroyed. U.S. military forces are deployed to the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility in support of Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere, Department of War-directed operations, and the President's priorities to disrupt illicit drug trafficking, deter malign actors and protect the homeland through continuous presence.
