Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Jonathan Braddy, a marine safety inspector from Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Massena, N.Y., takes ballast water samples on the motor vessel Kwintebank, while underway on the vessel in the Saint Lawrence Seaway, Aug. 1, 2013.

During the trip, Braddy examed all ballast tanks by taking water samples and checking the salinity with a refractometer.
