From the left, U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Serenity Wood, 31st Maintenance Squadron fuels journeyman, Senior Airman Kristofer Bauer, 31st MXS Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory physical dimensional technician, and Staff Sgt. Jonathan Turcios, 31st MXS PMEL logistics noncommissioned officer in charge, review technical data during an External Fuel Tank Build-Up Exercise at Aviano Air Base, Italy, Aug. 11, 2026. The exercise trained Mission Ready Airmen from multiple Air Force specialty codes to assemble external fuel tanks for F-16 Fighting Falcons. Expanding this capability across the maintenance workforce increased the 31st Fighter Wing’s operational flexibility, allowing Aircraft Fuel Systems Airmen to support forward-deployed operations while preserving the wing’s combat capability during real-world contingencies.
