Smoke rises from the Little Giant Fire visible above the mountains in the distance behind organized rows of tents that distinguish the campsite of soldiers assigned to 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division (Multi-Domain Command-Pacific), at the Chelan base camp on the east side of the Little Giant Fire Aug. 24, 2026, near Chelan, Washington. Approximately 250 active-duty U.S. Army soldiers are currently mobilized as hand crews to assist with wildfire suppression efforts at the request of the National Multi-Agency Coordinating Group (NMAC) located at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho.
