MIESAU, Germany -- U.S. Army Col. Jerry L. Wood Jr., U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz commander, tours the Miesau Ammo Depot, Germany, Aug. 18, 2026. Wood, who assumed command in July, visited the site to assess key capabilities, receive future planning briefs, and meet with personnel at the child development center, fitness center and fire station.
During the walk-around, Wood presented garrison coins to civilian employees Michele Ellis and Guadalupe Ratledge from the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, and Dirk Jung from the Directorate of Emergency Services, recognizing their exceptional performance in supporting Soldiers and their families.
Spanning more than 1,200 acres, Miesau Ammo Depot is one of USAG Rheinland-Pfalz’ 26 major sites in the region and is one of the U.S. Army's largest ammunition storage facilities outside the continental United States. It serves as a critical logistics hub for U.S. and NATO operations across Europe, directly supporting the garrison’s mission to set, serve, and secure the total force community and enable power projection for the European Theater.
