Timothy Jaalam ("Jay") Patterson (left) is the third generation of Patterson men to join the United States Army. He recited the Oath of Enlistment administered by his father, Lt. Col. Timothy ("Tim") Patterson, the deputy commanding officer of the Army's 3rd Recruiting Brigade during a ceremony in Columbus, Georgia. The event was especially meaningful as his grandfather, Richard Lee Patterson, was available to witness his grandson take his oath. The eldest Patterson served as a Sgt. 1st Class in the Vietnam war.
