A white lighthouse with a red-roofed keeper's dwelling sits atop a rocky coastal headland, partially obscured by fog or marine layer. The structure is viewed from a distance through a natural frame of conifer trees and coastal scrub vegetation. The scene conveys a remote, overcast Pacific Northwest coastal environment.

The current Cape Arago Lighthouse sits alone on top of Chief’s Island off the Oregon coast southwest of Coos Bay, Ore., Aug. 3, 2013. Today’s lighthouse is the third lighthouse to have been built on Chief’s Island with the previous two having been lost due to erosion of the island.
