    Lt. Cmdr. Edward K. Jacobs, oceanographer assigned to the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5), is awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal by Capt. Rodolfo Jacobo, commanding officer of USS Bataan, in the ship’s wardroom for meritorious service, exceptional leadership, and executing environmental support with zero meteorology or oceanography related mishaps, Aug. 19, 2026. Bataan is currently undergoing regularly scheduled maintenance in the General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) shipyard in Norfolk, Virginia.
