From right, U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Leonard F. Anderson IV, Marine Forces Reserve and Marine Forces South commander, Brig. Gen. Timothy S. Brady Jr., Combat Development Directorate commanding general, Brig. Gen. Dustin J. Byrum, Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory commanding general, and Brig. Gen. Joseph A. Katz, 4th Marine Logistics Group commanding general, participate in Ancillary Surface Craft (ASC) Distinguished Visitor Day in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, Aug. 12, 2026. The distinguished visitors observed ASC operations and engaged with Marines, allied partners and industry personnel to discuss the craft’s capabilities and potential applications in future contested littoral environments.
The ASC is a significant step towards achieving a capability organic to the Marine Corps for maneuver in the littorals without reliance on large high value Naval assets. This craft, coupled with smaller landing craft, will demonstrate the capability needed by the Corps to maneuver medium, light, and ultra-light tactical vehicles from shore-to-shore and distribute all classes of supply to disbursed forces in archipelagic regions.
