    Soldiers assigned to 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division construct a helipad by clearing logs and debris on the ground to create a safe landing spot for helicopters, Aug. 16, 2026, on the Modrite Fire near Inchelium, Wash. Approximately 250 active-duty U.S. Army soldiers are currently mobilized as hand crews to assist with wildfire suppression efforts at the request of the National Multi-Agency Coordinating Group (NMAC) located at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho.
