FORT RILEY, Kansas -- 1SG Bud Morgan, the color custodian for the Fort Riley Soldier Recovery Unit, holds the guidon pole steady as SRU Commander LTC Benjamin Peffer and CSM Ryan Johnson furl the unit colors during an inactivation ceremony at Fort Riley, Kansas, Aug. 14, 2026. Retiring the colors serves as the official, visual marker of the SRU’s inactivation, ending an era for a formation that oversaw the healing, rehabilitation, and successful transition of thousands of wounded, ill, and injured service members.
