U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Chase Barker and Cpl. Michael Little, both combat engineers with the 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Combat Logistics Battalion 7, 1st Marine Logistics Group, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard, weld a prefabricated bracket onto a support beam during barrier reinforcement operations in Naco, Ariz., August 13, 2026. These barrier reinforcement operations are critical to maintaining national readiness and ensuring the sustained protection and observation capabilities along the southern border. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
