Lightning strikes near the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area during a thunderstorm, August 14, 2026. Lightning strikes during the summer monsoon pose an ignition hazard across timber and brush on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest often starting smoldering fires which remain hidden for days.
