U.S. Navy Senior Chief Machinists Mate Zack Ruple, from Fort Myers, Florida, assigned to Engineering Department aboard Pre-Commissioning Unit John F. Kennedy (CVN 79), assists in a flight deck countermeasure wash-down (CMWD) on the flight deck during Acceptance Trials, Aug. 14, 2026. CMWD is used as a defense against chemical, biological, or radiological attacks by cover the flight deck in aqueous film forming foam (AFFF). Acceptance Trials is a series of crew-led test events designed to demonstrate to the U.S. Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey that the ship is constructed in accordance with contract specifications, and that the crew is adequately trained to conduct operations at sea.
