Visitors to the Arctic Thunder Open House at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, on Aug. 8-9 had the opportunity to step into the boots of an Alaska Army National Guard Soldier through the Last Frontier Challenge. The Last Frontier Challenge was an immersive, hands-on experience highlighting the unique missions and skills of the AKARNG. Participants explored aviation, emergency response, engineering, cybersecurity and leadership challenges while experiencing firsthand how AKARNG Soldiers support their communities during natural disasters, search-and-rescue missions, homeland defense and other real-world operations. The event also marked the launch of the Guard’s new “Live Here. Serve Here.” campaign, which celebrates the Alaskans who live, work, raise families and build careers in their communities while serving their state and answering the call when Alaska needs them.
