U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Joshua Dean and Spc. Domenic Hruby, both with the 62nd Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard, weld crows feet to the top of a barrier at National Defense Area 1 near Santa Teresa, New Mexico, Aug. 13, 2026. The crows feet provide anchor points for the installation of concertina wire. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
