The Timber Fire, which ignited August 8, 2026, is currently burning in the hills east of Highway 1 near Big Sur on the Los Padres National Forest. CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 1 along with firefighting resources from federal, state, and local agencies are working to directly suppress the fire to protect nearby homes, and build containment line. The area and its world renowned rugged scenery attracts millions of visitors each year. That same rugged scenery makes for challenging wildfire suppression, that’s why firefighters, heavy equipment and air resources have all been assigned to the incident.
