U.S. Army Soldiers with the 62nd Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard, stage crows feet on top of the barrier along the southern barrier in preparation for welding operations and concertina wire placement near Santa Teresa, New Mexico, Aug. 11, 2026. This barrier reinforcement operation is designed to deter illegal crossing into the United States. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
