ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Jul. 30, 2026) U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen participate in summer training ashore and aboard Yard Patrol (YP) craft as part of the U.S. Naval Academy's “YP NEXT” effort. YP Next introduces midshipmen to the tactical employment of robotic and autonomous systems through hands-on training, partnerships with industry and academia, and practical exercises while reinforcing core competencies in seamanship and navigation so that future naval leaders are prepared for an increasingly autonomous maritime battlespace.
