    U.S Army Staff Sgt. Elijah Slade, a supply noncommissioned officer assigned to Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, uses a weed trimer to clear brush and weeds on the excavation site during a recovery mission for the DPAA in Sicily, Italy, July 12, 2026. DPAA’s mission is to provide the fullest possible accounting for missing U.S. personnel to their families and the nation; this recovery effort is to attempt to recover the remains from the wreck of a B-25 Mitchell medium bomber from World War II.
