U.S. Navy Boatswain’s Mate Seaman Eduardo Ramirez Lopez, from California, directs an MH-60S Seahawk helicopter assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 12 attached to Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) aboard Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold (DDG 65) while conducting flight quarters in the South China Sea, July 23, 2026. Benfold is forward deployed and assigned to Task Force 70 and Carrier Strike Group 5. Task Force 70 and CSG 5 are forward-deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific region. U.S. 7th Fleet is the Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific.
