    Operation Ardent Vanguard

U.S. Soldiers with the 36th Engineer Battalion, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard, discuss adding reinforcements to HESCO barriers with civilian contractors, in order to further impede suspected illegal aliens from entering the United States, near Fort Hancock, Texas, July 29, 2026. This collaboration supports ongoing barrier reinforcement by evaluating the placement of concertina wire to ensure the barriers remain durable. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
