Ayrton Leiser, a survival instructor at the Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape (SERE) school at Fort Rucker, teaches children in the summer reading program how to start a fire using a bow and drill method. The method isn't easy, but is one of the more well known methods of getting a small burning ember, called a "cherry," that can then be used to get a fire going.
