U.S. Army 2nd Lt. Kade Carlson, assigned to the 41st Field Artillery Brigade, reaches the halfway point of a ruck march in Grafenwoehr Training Area, Germany, July 13, 2026. Soldiers practiced their land navigation skills to prepare for the upcoming North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Winter Instructor Course (NWIC) qualification. During the NWIC in Norway, Soldiers are provided with knowledge and skills to fight, move, and maintain combat readiness in arctic environments. Upon completion of the course, participants are certified to train their formations in the tactical and technical skills required to maneuver, survive, and leverage the unique conditions of snow, ice, and challenging terrain.
