U.S. Army Soldiers with the 2nd Battalion, 32nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, and the 3rd Battalion, 501st Attack Battalion, Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division, both assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB) in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard, participate in air insertion operations near the Lechuguilla Desert, Ariz., July 8, 2026. The operation strengthens air-ground integration by rehearsing the air insertion, tactical employment and extraction of personnel and Infantry Squad Vehicles. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
