A U.S. Army CH-47 Chinook helicopter with the 3rd Battalion, 501st Aviation Regiment, Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard, is staged on the flight line prior to an air assault exfiltration training to pick up Soldiers and an Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV), near Yuma, Arizona, July 9, 2026. The operation provides an opportunity for service members to utilize ISVs during air assault operations to navigate the harsh terrain of the southern border mission. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
