U.S. Army Sgt. Alejandro Ochoa, a CH-47 helicopter repairer and aircrew member with the 3rd Battalion, 501st Aviation Regiment, Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division, and Staff Sgt. Daniel Wirth, a joint fire support specialist with the Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 2nd Battalion, 32nd Field Artillery Regiment, both assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard, unload an Infantry Squad Vehicle into a CH-47 Chinook helicopter during cold load training before an air assault operation at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona, July 7, 2026. This training provides an opportunity for service members to rehearse air-mobility and transport capabilities along the southern border. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
