U.S. Navy Sailors assigned to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 60 prepare to move an MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter on the flight deck aboard Freedom-variant littoral combat ship USS Cooperstown (LCS 23) as the ship transits the Gulf of America, June 19, 2026. These maritime activities support Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB) in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard by reinforcing homeland defense operations and enabling search, detection, and observation capabilities. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
