Freudenthal is Nieves' step-father and Montalvo is her mother. Both currently reside in East Haven, Conn. Nieves has not seen her parents in two years, since she transferred to Las Vegas with the 650th. She is currently participating in Warrior Exercise 86 at Fort McCoy, where Freudenthal is overseeing the command sergeant major observer, controller/trainers for the exercise. The reunion was filled with happy tears, according to Nieves. "I cried. We both did, me and my mom, At first I was so excited I didn't think I was going to until I gave her a hug, then it all just poured out," she said.
