Service members assigned to U.S. Naval Station (NAVSTA) Rota, Spain and its supported commands stand in formation during an annual Independence Day flag raising ceremony onboard the installation, July 1, 2026. While raising the flag is a daily occurrence on most U.S. military installations around the world, Naval Station Rota is only permitted to fly the American flag with special permission once a year from the base’s Spanish admiral in chief in accordance with the Agreement on Defense Cooperation between the Kingdom of Spain and the United States of America. NAVSTA Rota is a force multiplier, capable of promptly deploying and supporting combat-ready forces through land, air and sea, enabling warfighters and their families, sustaining the fleet and fostering the U.S. and Spanish partnership.
