A crew works to remove a fallen tree June 6, 2026, during a National Trails Day event on the Cross Trail in Sitka, Alaska, co-hosted by the Forest Service and Sitka Trail Works, Inc. More than 30 employees and volunteers came together to remove downed trees and complete drainage work on the trail, which runs the length of town across city, state and federally managed lands. Partnerships like this help the Forest Service sustain forests and the benefits they provide to surrounding communities. (Sitka Trail Works photo courtesy of Emily Pound)
