    Students from the Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan “SMK” 12 Surabaya State Vocational High School performed Gamelan music, traditional to Indonesia for the 111th Army National Guard Band, in Surabaya, Indonesia, June 8, 2026. In celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Hawaiʻi-Indonesia State Partnership Program, this engagement highlighted the cultural ties between two Island communities. While military exercises reinforce security cooperation, this musical exchange displayed the vital role of cultural diplomacy in fostering genuine goodwill, mutual understanding, and lasting connections between communities.
