SAN DIEGO (June 11, 2026) - Rear Adm. T. J. Zerr, commander, Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center, welcomes Sailors assigned to Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Augusta (LCS 34) during a return to homeport ceremony in the ship's hangar bay. USS Augusta (LCS 34) returned to its homeport of San Diego after six months of sustained operations in the U.S. 3rd Fleet area of operations. Littoral combat ships are fast, optimally manned, mission-tailored surface combatants that operate in near-shore and open-ocean environments, winning against 21st-century threats. LCSs integrate with joint, combined, manned, and unmanned teams to support forward presence, maritime security, sea control, and deterrence missions around the globe.
