U.S. Army Garrison Commander Col. Melissa Cantwell and Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Eric Riding joined the Fort Hamilton community, along with Chaplain (CPT) Patrick Lime, Retired Chaplain (COL) Jacob Z. Goldstein, and Darryl “E” Ellison, Fort Hamilton Commissary Officer, in cutting the ceremonial cake during the U.S. Army’s 251st birthday celebration at the Fort Hamilton Commissary, June 12, 2026.
Lime, the youngest Soldier present, and Goldstein, the oldest, upheld the Army tradition symbolizing the continuity of service across generations. Ellison and the Commissary staff coordinated the celebration. The event brought Soldiers, families, retirees, and community partners together to honor more than 250 years of service and sacrifice.
Fort Hamilton celebrated its 201st birthday on June 11, 2026, following its 200th anniversary observance held throughout 2025–2026. This year’s Army birthday also aligns with the national “Freedom 250” semi quincentennial, highlighting the Army’s enduring role in America’s founding, growth, and defense.
