This year’s theme – Defending Freedom Since 1747 was highlighted in a recap of how the Pa. National Guard began as part of Benjamin Franklin’s Associators and evolved to the modern Army and Air Force units of today. Pennsylvania Deputy Adjutant General-Army U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Michael E. Wegscheider and Deputy Adjutant General-Air U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Terreance L. Koudelka provided remarks on how each branch has grown since 1747 before conducting an enlistment ceremony welcoming new members into Pennsylvania’s Army and Air National Guard.
