Sailors from Naval Support Activity Philadelphia had the honor of presenting the colors this past weekend during AKC Celebrates USA 250, June 5-7, at the Philadelphia Navy Yard as part of the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary commemoration.
The NSA Philadelphia Color Guard presented the colors during opening ceremonies for the AKC Diving Dogs Team Challenge, AKC Agility Premier Cup, and AKC Agility Team Challenge, helping kick off three days of competition, entertainment, and family-friendly activities celebrating the bond between Americans and their dogs.
The color guard was composed of Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) 1st Class Anthony Smith, Aviation Structural Mechanic 1st Class Jesus Mata, Machinist’s Mate 1st Class Arthur Mu, and Aviation Support Equipment Technician 3rd Class Kameron Williams.
All four Sailors serve on NSA Philadelphia’s Funeral Honors Detail, supporting the Navy’s sacred mission of honoring deceased service members and their families.
Adding to the Navy presence, Ms. Rose Chan, a Logistics Management Specialist with NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support, performed the National Anthem during opening ceremonies on Friday and Saturday.
Hosted by the American Kennel Club at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, AKC Celebrates USA 250 brought together elite canine athletes, dog enthusiasts, and families for a weekend of competition and community. Events like these strengthen connections between the Navy and the communities we serve while showcasing the enduring presence of the sea services in the Greater Philadelphia region as America prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary.
The AKC Diving Dogs Team Challenge is scheduled to air on ESPN July 4 following the annual hot dog eating contest, with additional event coverage airing later this summer.
