A sign warns visitors of potential munitions debris at William F. Hayden Park in Lakewood, Colorado, April 29, 2026. Historic Camp George West, approximately 2 miles north of the former Camp George West Artillery Range, was established in 1903 by the Colorado Army National Guard for small arms and artillery training. Green Mountain was used as a live-fire artillery impact area between 1903 and 1939. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Army National Guard, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the City of Lakewood have been working to remediate the site since 2010.
