U.S. Air Force Gen. Steven S. Nordhaus, chief of the National Guard Bureau, center, receives a tour of the sports complex at Military Base Ādaži in Kadaga, Latvia, June 2, 2026. Nordhaus and U.S. military representatives visited the U.S. European Command area of responsibility, meeting with delegation officials, military leaders and deployed U.S. forces. These visits assessed regional readiness and reinforced V Corps’ mission of providing combat-ready forces alongside NATO Allies. V Corps is the U.S. Army's only forward-deployed corps, serving as the senior tactical headquarters for Army forces in Eastern Europe to deter conflict and provide combat-ready forces alongside our NATO Allies. V Corps is operationalizing and expanding the Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative with Allies, rapidly integrating emerging technologies into training and tactical plans.
