U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Curtis Taylor, commander of 1st Armored Division and Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB), speaks about the history and legacy of the 1st Armored Division during a patching ceremony at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., May 29, 2026. This ceremony marked the transfer of authority of the JTF-SB mission by having JTF-SB service members switch from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) patch to the 1st Armored Division patch. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
