Wildland fire crews and tribal members conduct a collaborative prescribed and cultural burn at the Red Bluff Recreation Area in California, May 21, 2026. This multi-agency operation included engines and crews from the Mendocino National Forest, CAL FIRE Tehama-Glenn Unit/Tehama County Fire Department, Red Bluff City Fire Department, and the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians working in tandem to support community protection, habitat restoration, and cultural resources. Highlighting the historic return of cultural burning practices to the area, tribal elders led the ignitions on the project's test fire. (Forest Service photo by Laura Leidner)
