U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Benjamin Runck, a combat engineer with Combat Logistics Battalion 7, 1st Marine Logistics Group, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border, uses a chainsaw to cut wood during vegetation clearance operations at the Border Patrol forward operating base in Sasabe, Ariz., May 26, 2026. Clearing the vegetation improves daily base operations and strengthens operational interagency partnerships. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
