Combining physical readiness with a solemn holiday tribute, NMRTC Patuxent River brought personnel together this week at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River Drill Hall Field to take on the 'Murph' challenge in observance of Memorial Day.
The warm-up routine was led by Assistant Command Fitness Leaders Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Jaden Sprague, Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Ethan Johnson, and Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Lucas Arteaga to prepare the crew for a modified version of the grueling 'Murph' challenge.
Held ahead of the Memorial Day weekend, the workout builds unit cohesion while paying tribute to Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2005 and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. The traditional routine consists of a 1-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and a final 1-mile run.
