Col. Patrick Madigan helped shape how the U.S. Army cared for service members by arguing that mental fitness mattered as much as physical strength. His legacy was honored by the redesignating of Fort Lewis General Hospital as Madigan General Hospital after his death in 1944. The facility, now known as Madigan Army Medical Center, carries on his legacy through nationally recognized, high-quality healthcare for warfighters and families.
