U.S. Air Force Capt. Lyza Taino, a landing zone safety officer with the 36th Contingency Response Squadron, stands in front of a C-17 Globe Master III at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, May 19, 2026. Taino and a Contingency Response Aerial Port Contingent from the 36th CRS arrived at Saipan International Airport on Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, four days after Super Typhoon Sinlaku hit the island. Operating from the airport, the team worked around the clock to receive and move supplies across the CNMI. Airmen slept in tents near the airfield during the initial weeks of operation while managing cargo movement and aircraft operations, which included shipping a total of 2.8 million pounds of supplies to storm affected areas around Saipan, Tinian and Rota.
