Mr. Joon Park, Administrator, United States Department of Agriculture, Agriculture Research Service ARS discusses with Museum of Natural History (MNH) staff during the celebration of partnership between the USDA and the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History at the Museum of Natural History, Washington D.C., Feb. 13, 2026. A strong partnership is essential to protecting American agriculture, and the recent Memorandum of Understanding between the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) and Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History reflects that commitment. By strengthening collaboration on pest and flora specimen identification and positioning scientific staff closer to the Smithsonian’s world class collections, this agreement enhances our collective ability to detect, study, and respond to threats that impact farmers, producers, and ecosystems nationwide. Leaders from all three organizations gathered to commemorate this milestone, underscoring a shared dedication to scientific excellence, innovation, and safeguarding the nation’s agricultural resources for generations to come.
